Directorate of Systems

The Directorate of Systems is the nodal agency which has spearheaded the IT initiatives of the CBEC. It has implemented a number of projects aimed at harnessing Information & Communication Technology (ICT) in achieving the objectives of Customs and Central Excise administration. These projects are of far reaching consequence and will alter in a fundamental way, the manner in which the department delivers its services.

Apart from the Customs EDI project, the Directorate of Systems has  been  instrumental in electronic filing of Service tax returns in April 2003, the first such initiative in India.

With the Electronic filing of Central Excise returns, CBEC has achieved the milestone of enabling electronic filing in respect of all major taxes collected by it.
